Gadsden resident Brian Smith won the American Bass Anglers Ram Truck Open Series in the Co-Angler Division on Weiss Lake on July 9. Smith won with three bass weighing 11.84 pounds. He sealed his victory with a 4.81-pound kicker.

“We were fishing shallow pretty much kicking up mud all day hitting docks,” said Smith. “I used red soft plastics to catch my fish, this is what I stuck with all day. I caught fish all day, so it was a good day.”

Smith pocketed a check for $1,500 for first place and an additional $220 for Big Bass.

In fourth place among the Co-Anglers, Jonathan Barksdale of Southside brought in three bass weighing 6.51 pounds.

The next divisional tournament will be held on Neely Henry out of Coosa Landing in Gadsden on Aug. 13.

At the end of the season, the best anglers from across the nation advance the 2017 Ray Scott Championship in April 2017 at Old Hickory Lake in Hendersonville, Tenn.
