Local gridders recognized in AHSAA Prep Spotlight

Several local football players were recognized in the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s Prep Spotlight for the Week of Sept. 1
Southside senior running back Mason Teague rushed 19 times for 224 yards and three touchdowns in the Panthers’ 37-12 win over Hokes Bluff. Teague had 174 yards and two TDs under his belt by halftime. Quarterback Gauge NeSmith became his school’s all-time passing leader with his first completion of the game, a 12-yard pass to Jordan Bryan late in the first quarter.
Coosa Christian junior linebacker Clete O’Bryant finished with 14 tackles, for of them for a loss, in the Conquerors’ 21-6 win over Spring Garden. Junior kicker Jadan Burns kicked field goals of 29 and 35 yards and was 3-for-3 in extra points.
Sardis junior quarterback Brian Chapman (pictured above) was 20 for 32 in passing for 241 yards and three touchdowns and rushed seven times for 50 yards and two scores in the Lions’ 34-14 victory over New Hope. Blaze Gerhart had six receptions for 62 yards and a touchdown.
Gadsden City senior halfback T.J. Worthy rushed for 168 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries in the Titans’ 42-27 loss to Hewitt-Trussville. Chris Butler had 11 tackles for GCHS.
