This Saturday, June 17, at the Sportsplex Rainbow City, the local Alabama Rush Soccer Club will host an all-day adult Champions Cup Tournament and Southside High School will host 13 schools for summer play dates. The facility is located at 625 Kinzie Lane in Rainbow City.
The adult tournament will feature teams from Alabama, Tennessee and Georgia. The two events will utilize five of the facilities’ six soccer fields,
Opening rounds start at 8:30 a.m. and the championship game will be played approximately at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $5.
“Alabama Rush is excited to get some of our bigger events going at the Sports Complex,” said Alabama Rush Club Director Bill Martin. “The Sports Complex Authority, the City of Rainbow City and especially authority chairman, Rainbow City Councilman and Southside High School boys soccer coach Randy Vice have rolled out the red carpet, and we’ve felt at home since we started planning this event. The facility looks amazing, and the opportunity to host large events like this one gives us so many options on building programming going forward. This tournament should help fill restaurants, gas stations and other businesses in generating revenue and tax dollars for Rainbow City, which was the goal of the complex since it began.”
The Alabama Rush and Alabama FC East soccer clubs will practice at the complex.
“I’m excited for the upcoming simultaneous events at the sportsplex,” said Vice. “(Rainbow City) Parks and Recreation Department Director Phillip Hollingsworth, Mayor Joe Taylor, Police Chief Camp Yancy and the entire city staff are very important pieces to pulling off an event of this magnitude. I appreciate Bill Martin and Alabama Rush for choosing our city for this event, and we look forward to cooperating with Rush and the entire soccer, football and athletic community to show case our community and the entire Etowah County area.”
Upcoming events at the venue include a 7×7 high school football scrimmage on June 29 and 30 hosted by Coosa Christian; the Tyler Stovall Summer Sports Camp on July 19, 20 and 21; a 7×7 high school football scrimmage on July 22 hosted by Westbrook Christian; a 7×7 high school football scrimmage on July 27 hosted by Southside High School; an Alabama Rush Soccer Showcase on October 14; and the Champions Cup soccer tournament sponsored by FC Alabama East on November 11.
The Sportsplex Rainbow City is a cooperative effort between the Etowah County Mega Sports Complex Authority and the City of Rainbow City.
