Southside, Gaston medal at Fort Payne meet

Eight local athletes won individual medals at the Northeast Alabama Invitational on Feb. 26 at Fort Payne High School.
Seven members of the Southside High School track and field team and one from Gaston made the podium
The SHS boys finished third overall, while the girls came in fifth.
Winning the first-place gold were Southside’s Grayson Russell in the boys 200-meter dash (22.51), Gaston’s Kodie Bogle in the boys javelin (146-09), and the Southside boys 4×100-meter relay team of Christopher Butler, Nathan Whitt, Cody Roberts and Grayson Russell (44.03).
Taking the second-place silver for Southside were Ryan Maudsley in the boys 3200-meter run (10:38.18), Connor Rowland in the boys shot put (42-04.00) and the boys 4×800-meter relay team of Ryan Maudsley, Luke Holcombe, Jackson Griggs and Will Anglea (8:33.58).
Finishing with the third-place bronze for Southside were Lauren Henderson in the girls 100-meter dash (13.15), Abbie Owens in the girls 200-meter dash (27.54), Grayson Russell in the boys 100-meter dash (11.06) and Nathan Whitt in the boys 200-meter dash (23.18).
