The Gadsden City High football team capped off the school’s homecoming week with a 69-0 victory over Hazel Green on Friday, Oct. 6 at GCHS.
The win solidified the Titans’ position at the top of the Class 6A Region 8 standings with a 3-0 record. GCHS is 4-3 overall.
Gadsden City finished with a 421 advantage in total yards against the Trojans, including a 233 to 39 edge on the ground.
Senior running back T.J. Worthy rushed for 87 yards and three touchdowns on nine carries. He also caught two passes for 64 yards.
Luke Waldrop was 8 for 11 in passing for 149 yards and a touchdown. Matthew Sparks had three receptions for 29 yards and a TD.
Chris Butler six tackles, including three for a loss, and three sacks. Dre Kirkpatrick, Jr., had an interception.
The hosts stormed out to a 21-0 first quarter lead courtesy of Waldrop’s four-yard TD pass to Sparks, a 13-yard touchdown run by Kerrell Yow and an 11-yard TD scamper by Worthy.
The Titans scored three more touchdowns during the second period to take a 42-0 lead into halftime. Waldrop ran it in from eight yards out, Tremonte Williams cashed in from 28 yards out and Worthy ran it in from a yard away.
It was more of the same in the third quarter with touchdown runs from Worthy (10 yards) and Kai Franklin (19 yards) along with Franklin’s 19-yard TD strike to Justin Peoples.
Isaiah Collins capped the scoring with a one-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
Gadsden City continues region play on Friday, Oct. 13 at home against Mae Jemison.
