Woman’s Club holds January meeting

The Woman’s Club of Gadsden met on Jan. 27 at the Club House.

President Martha Elrod welcomed the members and guests to the meeting and introduced new member Marie Heygood. 

Pat Saye gave the devotional. Martha also thanked January luncheon committee chairman Donna Wright and her committee for the beautiful decorations and the delicious lunch which was catered by Chef Diva.

First Vice President Stephanie Birchmore introduced City of Gadsden Mayor Sherman Guyton, who presented his annual “State of the City” address. Mayor Guyton discussed plans for the development of a new park and walking trails along riverfront property in East Gadsden next to the old K-Mart property and improvements at Noccalula Falls. Work is in progress on “210 Locust,” a new event facility which was donated to the city and should be available for parties soon. The Pitman Theater doors are being refurbished, along with repair work to the Gunn-Ballenger Home. Plans are also being developed by a chain restaurant to build on the property next to Chili’s. 

2015 Civic Directory chairperson Dr. Marie Luttrell made a positive report on sales and thanked all those who supported the club by purchasing an advertisement. Her committee members were also recognized for an outstanding job. Directories are available for sale at the Club House and the Gadsden Tourism Board. The funds earned are for the Charlotte Chrisman Cox Scholarship Fund and other altruistic projects supported by the Woman’s Club.

The Annual Southern Tea will be held at the Woman’s Club on Saturday, April 25, from noon till 2 p.m. This year’s Tea will include a Woman’s Expo. 

The club’s next meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 24, at noon. The program “Never Surrender: A Breast Cancer Support Organization” will be presented by May Hagar and Tara Fulford.
