Local athletes medal at Cullman Classic

Two area track and field athletes medaled and several others finished in the top 10 at the 61-team Cullman Classic last Saturday (March 20) at Cullman High School.
Ashville’s Emma Drinkard (pictured above) was runner-up in the girls 100-meter dash event with a time of 13.15. Westbrook Christian’s Carl Henry took third in the boys shot put with a throw of 43-11.00.
The Ashville girls 4×800-meter relay team of Callie Stewart, Meghan McCarthy, Kathleen McCarthy and Emma Drinkard posted a fourth-place time of 10:48.25. Ashville’s Gabe Sawyer came in fifth in the boys 110-meter hurdles at 17.71.
Other top 10 performers from Ashville included Kayla Simpson (seventh in the triple jump at 32-06.50 and ninth in the long jump at 14-08.75), Nick Spears (eight in the boys pole vault at 110-06), Emma Drinkard (ninth in the girls 400-meter dash at 1:04.92) and the boys 4×800-meter relay team of Clayton Knight, Travis Smith, Joe Stevens and Ashton Vann (ninth, 9:25.22).
