Sprayberry scores three TDs in Hokes Bluff win over Glencoe

Noah Sprayberry’s third and final touchdown run with just under nine minutes left in the game held up as the winning score in Hokes Bluff’s 21-14 victory over Glencoe on September 2 in the Class 3A, Region 6 opener for both teams.
The Eagles (1-1) built a 14-0 advantage at halftime by way of Sprayberry’s 3-yard run at 8:51 of the first quarter and 9-yard jaunt midway through the second period.
But the host Yellow Jackets (1-1) tied the game with a pair of 1-yard TD runs by quarterback Nolan Fairley in the third quarter, the first at 8:23 and the second with 38 seconds left.
The Eagle defense pitched a shutout the rest of the way, and Sprayberry’s 5-yard score at 8:59 of the fourth helped Hokes Bluff improve to 36-42-1 in the series.
Sprayberry finished with 106 yards on 19 carries. Conner Masters was 5 of 7 in passing for 71 yards. Cole Stone had three receptions for 40 yards.
Stone led the way defensively with nine tackles, followed by Jaylen Simmons and Kaleb Coshatt with seven each. Coshatt also had two sacks.
For the Yellow Jackets, Fairley rushed for 92 yards on 28 carries, while Wade Segrest finished with 89 yards in seven attempts.
Both teams resume region play this Friday (Sept. 9). Glencoe hosts Westbrook Christian, while Hokes Bluff travels to Geraldine.
