Gadsden City improved its record to 6-5 last Monday (Dec. 17) with a 79-48 win over Anniston at GCHS.
All 13 GCHS 13 players scored.
Titan head coach Reginald Huff, who earned his 402nd career victory, was pleased with his team’s overall performance.
“We played well at times but we’re still looking to find the chemistry to return to championship play. We had a good game rebounding, although we still have a way to go. We’re still missing a couple of players who hopefully will step in to contribute later in the season.”
The Titans were led by Rakim Lubin’s game-high 17 points while Chris Turk added 14.
Gadsden City (6-5) jumped out to a quick 20-8 lead after one quarter behind a balanced scoring attack.
The Titans increased their advantage to 48-20 at the half. Turk did much of the early damage, scoring 12 of his 14 points in the contest’s first 16 minutes.
The hosts put the game away in the third quarter, outscoring Anniston (6-8) 23 to 17 behind Rakim Lubin’s 11 points. Gadsden City led 71-37 after three quarters.
With the game clock allowed to run continuously, the fourth period turned into a slam-dunk exhibition for GCHS.
Trey Kalina grabbed eight rebounds for the Titans, while Jeff Garrett added five assists.
Marquavious Frazier led Anniston with 17 points, followed by Quindarious Jackson with 15.
“We have been going up against some stiff competition, and this will help us in the long run,” said Huff. “We’re traveling to Meridian, Mississippi, on Friday to play in a holiday tournament there against some outstanding teams.”
