Sydney Simpson tossed her second no-hitter of the season in Etowah’s 12-0 win over Class 4A, Area 12 rival Ashville last Tuesday, March 14. In five innings, Simpson (pictured above) struck out 14 and did not allow a walk. She helped her cause by going 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Also at the plate for the Lady Blue Devils, Bella Owen went 3-for-3 with three doubles, an RBI and three run scored; Laura Wood went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored; Lauren Farmer went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored; Maggy Bennett went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored and Jayleigh Devine had a double and two runs scored.
Sparked by Kayden Tarver’s no-hit performance on the mound, Sardis posted an 8-1 victory over Albertville on Tuesday, March 14 in Sardis City. In six innings, Tarvin allowed three walks while striking out 15. She did not allow an earned run. At the plate for the Lady Lions, Kytha Edwards went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored; Annah Kate Waldrep went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored; Jayda Lacks went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored; Hannah Hill went 2-for-3 and Val Owens had a double and a run scored.
First-inning scores by Brooklyn Mikus and Rachel St. John were all Ashville needed in a 2-0 win over Victory Christian on Saturday, March 11 in Pell City. In five innings, winning pitcher Jayda Burgess allowed two hits while striking out 10. She did not issue a walk. At the plate for the Lady Bulldogs, Ansley Brashier had an RBI double, Gracie Click had a double and Mikus, Burgess and Anna Lynn Williamson each had a hit.
Sardis went 2-1 last Saturday, defeating White Plains, 3-1, and splitting with Alexandria, 2-0 and 1-12. For the Lady Lions against White Plains, winning pitcher Kayden Tarvin pitched a one-hitter while allowing two walks and striking out seven. Val Owens had a home run, an RBI and a run scored, Jayda Lacks had a double, an RBI and a run scored and Jaylyn Hannah had an RBI double. In the win against Alexandria, Vada Wilmore and Annah kate Waldrep each had a hit and a run scored, while Hannah and Owens each had a hit and an RBI. In five innings, winning pitcher Halle Haynes allowed two hits and no walks with two strikeouts. In the loss to Alexandria, Waldrep went 2-for-2 with a run scored; Hannah went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
