Senior quarterback Greyson Carroll finished with 273 combined yards and five touchdowns to help Westbrook Christian defeat Etowah County neighbor and Class 3A Region 6 rival Glencoe, 56-34, on Sept. 15 in Rainbow City.
Carroll rushed for 151 yards and three touchdowns on 17 carries and was 8 for 16 in passing for 122 yards and two TDs.
The teams combined for 957 yards, 504 for Westbrook and 453 for Glencoe.
Although the Warriors (2-1, 1-1) led the entire game, the Yellow Jackets (1-2, 0-2) drew within 28-21 midway through the second quarter on Brady Kitchens’ 30-yard touchdown pass. Westbrook answered that score with Hunter Arnold’s 26-yard touchdown run, and the hosts maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way.
In the second half, Carroll scored twice and Arnold added another touchdown to put the game out of reach.
Arnold gained 94 yards on eight rushing attempts, while Drew Whittemore ran for 68 yards on six carries and Lamycal Mitchell rushed three times for 56 yards.
Cooper Greer had four receptions for 57 yards and a touchdown, while Brodie Johnson caught three passes for 24 yards. Reed Barber was 8-for-8 on extra points.
Brody Blevins and Max Legg each had 11 tackles, followed by Eggo Alabbasi with 10, Noah Wright with. Titus Jones and Ben Morrison with nine each, Nolan Terrell with eight, Jake Haney with six and Bo Kilgo with five. Blevins also had an interception.
For Glencoe, Kitchens was 9 for 13 in passing for 202 yards and two touchdowns. Aaron Mann rushed for 165 yards and three touchdowns on 21 carries. Jayden Patton had seven receptions for 166 yards and two touchdowns.
Both teams continue region play on Friday, Sept. 22. Westbrook visits Hokes Bluff, while Glencoe hosts Plainview.
