Four runners placed on the top 10 to help the West End girls cross country team (pictured above) win the Class 1A-3A 5K at the Wildcat Fall Classic last Saturday (Oct. 14) in Anniston.
Paten Battles led the Lady Patriots with a first-place time of 20:45.24. Kaylee Tarpley finished sixth at 22:32.50, followed by Karlee Tarpley in seventh at 22:47.20 and Kennedi Nix in 10th at 22:59.07.
Also finishing in the top 10 were Hokes Bluff’s Emma Godfrey and Glencoe’s Sarah Ponder, who placed third and fourth, respectively, at 21:15.20 and 21:18.41.
Hokes Bluff’s Mara Brothers finished 18th at 25:04.63, while West End’s Toree Chaney helped West End’s cause with a 23rd place time of 25:56.22.
In the boys’ race, Hokes Bluff’s Ethan Patterson clocked in with a runner-up time of 17:38.88. Finishing in the top 20 were Glencoe’s Owen Beason in 14th at 19:56.26, Hokes Bluff’s Micah Brasher in 18th at 20:16.26, Glencoe’s Braxton Fortenberry in 19th at 20:18.81 and Hokes Bluff’s Samuel Neal, Samuel in 31st at 20:33.67.
