Alabama Teachers Credit Union announces name change

Alabama Teachers Credit Union unveiled its new name — Emblem Credit Union — Friday, February 23, 2024. The new name is set to launch to members and the market in October.

The new name, along with a new logo and colors, tagline and full brand identity, will launch this fall.

ATCU has served Northeast Alabama for 65 years by strengthening people’s lives through financial tools and resources. They expanded their field of membership in 2001 and currently serves any individual living, working or attending school in Calhoun, Cherokee, DeKalb, Etowah and Marshall counties.

“The commitment to all those in the community needed to be represented by a new, more engaging name,” a press release on the matter stated. “Emblem is a clear way of communicating that the credit union is here to serve more members and serve them even better.”

The new name was announced at the credit union’s recent annual meeting.

“Our new name really signifies the way we have always served our members and our communities,” said Ron Summerall, CEO of Alabama Teachers Credit Union. “Emblem is a new way of communicating what we have been and remain committed to – being a trusted partner for our long-term as well as our future members.”

The name “Emblem,” which is defined as a mark of individual and collective distinction, “embodies the experiences of the people and places that make Alabama such a unique place to live and work. It is a reflection of ATCU’s values of people learning and growing together.”

According to the press release, the new name “honors [ATCU’s] educational roots, while moving them into a future focused on empowering all people to achieve financial wellbeing.”

Alabama Teachers Credit Union, soon to be Emblem Credit Union, was founded in 1959 to serve
employees and family members of the Gadsden City and Etowah County School Systems.

“We want to assure you, even with a new name, our core values and commitment to you remain steadfast,” Summerall said. “ATCU has not been sold, and we are not for sale. The friendly faces you know and trust in our offices will remain the same, providing you with the excellent service you have come to expect.”
