Mrs. Doris Baty Griffith, 84, of Jacksonville, AL, went to be with the Lord on Saturday July 26, 2025, in her home, surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Griffith was born on June 19, 1941, to Raven and Geraldine Baty of Attalla, AL.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Raven and Geraldine Baty; her son, Allen Benefield; her son-in-law, Greg Colvin; her brother-in-law, Oscar Harp; and her great-grandson, Baker Beach.
Doris is survived and will be dearly missed by her loving husband of 40 years, Gary Griffith. She is also survived by her children, Mark (Shonna) Gaskin, Penny (Blake Smith) Colvin, Chris (Carol) Gaskin, Janna (Andrew) Parris, David (Missy) Griffith, and Steve (Michelle) Griffith.
She had 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild on the way. She will be forever cherished by her siblings; “The Baty Bunch”, Billie Harp, Angie (Steve) Whitt, Lisa (Scott) Claridy, Danny (Charlotte) Baty, and Jimmy (Yvonne) Baty.
Doris was a devoted homemaker after working for many years in the dry-cleaning industry. She was a known affectionately by many as “Granny.” She loved taking trips to the mountains and the beach whenever possible and could spend hours shopping. Doris was known for her delicious cooking and her nurturing spirit-always ready to care for those she loved. She was a member of New Liberty Baptist Church and enjoyed visiting Hokes Bluff House of Prayer to hear her son preach.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Josh Gaskin, Garret Gaskin, Jacob Gaskin, Joshua Lumpkin, Steven Smith, and Isaiah Rios.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alpha-1 Foundation or to Baker’s Blessing.
Her family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Compassus Hospice-especially Jeff and Perry; Dr. Wells, and the entire UAB Kirkland Clinic Pulmonary Department.
