On Nov. 4, Lemuel Jackson “Jacky” Beck, 79, of Attalla, Alabama, claimed the promise of Jesus’ words, “I go to prepare a place for you,” and entered the eternal home his Savior had lovingly prepared for him.
Born to Lemuel Jefferson Beck and Elaine Slate Beck, Jacky was a proud graduate of Etowah High School (1965). He received a scholarship to play football at Samford University and there he earned his Bachelor of Science degree and later he earned his Doctor of Philosophy from Southern Seminary. His scholarship and academic achievements reflect his steadfast determination and stand as a testimony to God’s faithfulness throughout his life.
He is survived by his son, Lemuel Joshua Beck and his wife Tanya, his stepson, Jason Alan Crowe and his wife Bonnie (Greyson and Henry), his siblings Kenneth Beck (Sherry), Carolyn Bennett (Robert), Brenda Miller (Charles), Judy Brown (David), Jane Martin, and Don Beck; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will carry forward his gentle spirit.
Jacky lived a life devoted to serving others and sharing the love of God—as a pastor, counselor, chaplain, probation officer, musician, youth minister, missionary, school bus driver, and faithful friend. His ministry was never confined to a pulpit but flowed through every conversation, every prayer, and every act of quiet kindness. He met people where they were, offered them grace, a ministry of presence, and hope where there had been sorrow.
Jacky’s hobbies and interests were as plentiful as his callings in life. He loved classic cars, enjoyed riding his bike, and never missed an opportunity to share a good story.
Now Jacky has begun the Great Story, which no one on earth has read–continues forever, each chapter better than the one before.
