Jeffrey Lamar Ballard

Jeffrey Lamar Ballard, 80, went to be with Jesus Saturday, Nov. 15. He was preceded in death by his mother and father Melton and Louvisa, and his brother Gene. Lamar was married to his beloved wife Hilda Ballard for 60 years. He was a devoted husband with unwavering commitment that set an example for everyone who knew him. He is survived by his daughters and son in-laws Tonya Alcarez (Rick), and Kami McGuire (Paul); Joel Alcarez (Caroline), Scarlett, Ashley, & his eight great grandchildren. 

Known throughout his community for his steady faith, he lived a life marked by love, laughter, and service. Every Sunday for the past 60 years, you would find Lamar dressed in his Sunday best as an active member of Pleasant Hill Church. It was here that he taught Sunday School, sang solos and was part of the church choir. His faith was not just something he spoke about, but was something he lived. Those who knew him have no doubt that he has earned his place in Heaven. 

He loved his family deeply, and was present for every milestone of his children, his grandchildren and every relative who has gathered around his table or walked through his garden. He had a special gift for humor and loved bringing laughter to those around him (often done with his excellent train whistle). He succeeded in leaving behind ever-lasting memories for those around him—From catching every fish in the state of Alabama to gifting his home-grown veggies to his neighbors. To know him, was to know goodness and God.
