Two Class 6A, Region 7 teams jockey for playoff positions line up in tonight’s Homecoming game for Gadsden City.

A loss wouldn’t put ei-ther squad out of postseason contention, but the winner gets a leg up on the competition.

At the moment, Clay-Chalkville High is undefeated in Class 6A, Region 7. Gadsden City, Pell City, Huntsville and Oxford all trail by one game.

A couple of other teams are still trying to get back in the mix for the four postseason slots.

“If we can win this one, we’ll be in pretty solid shape,” Gadsden City coach Matt Scott said. “But we’re in the same boat as (Pell City).”

Scott knows something about the Panthers, as his Hueytown team beat them last year in a humdinger.

Pell City opened up a 28-0 lead before the Gophers got it going and won, 35-28.

Scott said that that Panthers were prone to some trickery – something the Titans will have to keep an eye on.

Scott also said that Gadsden City is improving with every snap. The Titans opened a 13-0 lead last week against one of the “best defenses I’ve ever coached against.” Midway through the third quarter, Gadsden City still led 13-7 before the Tigers wrapped it up with a couple of late scores.

“We’re doing a lot of good things,” Scott said. “We blocked a field goal attempt and our two-minute offense did really well at the end of the game. We didn’t score but we drove the field.

“And our four-minute defense got us the ball back with a chance to win or tie.”
