Goodyear kicks off 85th anniversary events

By Donna Thornton/News Editor

Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company retirees turned out on April 24 to kicked off the company’s celebration of the 85th anniversary of the plant’s opening in 1929.

Memorabilia was on display, including a Goodyear flag and an American flag that reportedly flew over the plant on opening day.

“The American flag has only 48 stars,” Goodyear Communications Manager  Jackie Brehm Edmondson pointed out.

Gordon Linkous, director at the Gadsden plant, said there had been lots of ups and downs at the Gadsden plant over the years.

Now Gadsden is experiencing a lot of ups, Linkous said, thanks to the dedication of past and present Goodyear employees.
