Etowah, Gaston advance; Glencoe falls in first round

Etowah defeated Lawrence County, 9-2, 13-3, in the first round of the Class 2A state baseball playoffs on Saturday (Apr. 18) in Attalla.

The fifth ranked Blue Devils (26-9) host No. 6 Russellville in a second round series beginning Friday (Apr. 24). 

Gaston High swept Southeastern, 6-0, 9-2, in the first round of the Class 2A state baseball playoffs on Saturday (Apr. 18) at GHS.

The Bulldogs (14-9) will face either Cleveland or Sumiton Christian in a second round series starting Friday (Apr. 24). 

Piedmont swept Glencoe, 2-1 and 8-1, in the first round of the Class 3A state baseball playoffs on Saturday at Jacksonville State. 

The Yellow Jackets finished the season at 10-7. 

Piedmont (19-8) travels to Westbrook Christian for a best-of-three second round series beginning Friday (Apr. 24).
