Boats will race at 3rd annual Habitat dragon boat festival

The 3rd annual dragon boat race will take place on Saturday Aug. 16 at 9 a.m., Gadsden Riverwalk Park. 

Each 46” long canoe should have a team of 20 paddlers, 1 drummer, and a steersperson plus 3 alternates ages 15 and up. The deadline to register a team for the race is Friday, Aug. 1. 

The team will receive a 90-minute practice session with a coach; tent space in Athletes Village; team name and sponsor recognition; and use of all equipment such as boat, paddles, life jackets, and steersman.

Awards will be given in two races divisions: Competitive and Recreation, and for Best Team Spirit, Best Dressed Drummer, and Best Decorated Tent. 

Enjoy free parking and free admission and lots of food concessions, kid’s activities, JSU Steel Drum Band, drummer’s parade, music, bungy jump, and more.
