Each week, downtown Gadsden merchants join to connect with each other at Downtown Gadsden Incorporated’s Connections meeting.
Merchants interact to make downtown Gadsden a stronger community, while getting 30 seconds to tell what’s happening in their stores.
Breakfast and coffee from The Coffee Well is provided by merchants while a seven-minute presentation is given.
Imagination Place Director Tami Brooks presented on Wednesday, June 11 – but this time, Connections merchants left their usual round-table seats and took a trip back in time on a tour through some of childhood’s most popular toys.
Toys: The Inside Story lets visitors find out how toys work by illustrating the simple mechanisms commonly found in them. Visitors can create their own toy-like combinations of gears, pulleys, linkages, cams and circuits.
Connections merchants visited 12 different hands-on stations, including the Etch A Sketch station, where visitors get a closer look at how an Etch A Sketch really works, in case they never broke one as a child.
Merchants saw how Jack really gets out of his box at the Jack Gets Out of His Box station, saw how carousels spin, and found out what makes Elmo dance.
The exhibition, developed by Montshire Museum of Science in Norwich, Vt., runs through Sept. 1, 2014. Admission is $6 for adults and $5 for children over 2 years.
