I recently read a devotion using the alphabet to describe the heart of our heavenly Father.
However, I would describe the devotion I am writing today to reveal more about the character of Abba, our Father. Through His Word, the Bible, we see the heart and character of our Father.
Regardless of your experience with your earthly father, remember you have a Heavenly Father who loves you more than you can imagine. As you read these Scriptures, may you experience and sense His love for you, and may the words used to describe our Father sink deep in your heart so that in hard times you can stand on the truth of who He is. Your Father wants you to know Him, love Him and enjoy Him!
This is the first of a two-part devotion. I will cover the first half of the alphabet this week and the second half of the alphabet next week. May I encourage you to take time and read each Scripture aloud and focus on the character and heart of our Father.
A = Abba. Romans 8:15 says, “For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall again into fear; rather, you received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” He is my Abba, my Papa-God.
B = Blesses. Ephesians 1:3 says, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Yeshua, the Messiah, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Messiah.”
C = Carries. Deuteronomy 1:31 says, “There you saw how the Lord your God carried you, as a father carries his son. All the way you went until you reached this place.”
D = Disciplines. Hebrew 12:6-7 says, “Because the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son. Endure hardship as discipline; God is not treating you as his children. For what children are not discipline by their father?”
E = Exults. Zephaniah 3:17 says, “The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.”
F = Father. Psalm 68:5 says, “A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows.”
G = Giver. Genesis 2:7 says, “Then the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground. He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nostrils, and the man became a living person.”
H = Helper. Isaiah 44:2 says, “This is what the Lord says – he who made you, who formed you in the womb and who will help you: Do not be afraid, Jacob, my servant, Jeshurun, whom I have chosen.”
I = Instructs. Psalm 32:8 says, “I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go; I will guide thee with mine eye.”
J = Judge. Genesis 18:25 says, “Far be it from you to do such a thing – to kill the righteous with the wicked, treating the righteous and the wicked alike. Far be it from you! Will not the Judge of all the earth do right?”
K = Knows. Matthew 6:8 says, “Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.”
Lord, it is my prayer that I see You for who You truly are, according to the truth of Your Word!
