Gadsden City High earns award from T-Mobile program

On Friday September 13, Gadsden City High School was notified that they are among 50 high schools across the country to receive $5,000 as part of T-Mobile’s recently launched “T-Mobile Friday Night 5G Lights”.

The $5,000 award will help to support the school’s football program. The high school can use the money towards items such as new equipment, sports gear, or to cover transportation expenses. Gadsden City High School is one of 10 high schools in Alabama to win $5,000 since the program launched in August.

The following high schools in Alabama, including Gadsden City, have received a collective $50,000 from T-Mobile for their football programs: Buckhorn High in New Market, Central High in Florence, Hanceville High in Hanceville, Hartselle High in Hartselle, Loachapoke High in Loachapoka, St. Clair County High in Odenville, Section High in Section, Stanhope Elmore High, in Millbrook and West Morgan High in Trinity.

The Friday Night 5G Lights program will ultimately give one small-town school a chance to win a $2 million grand prize football field technology makeover. Gadsden City High School is still in the competition for a chance to receive the ultimate grand prize.

In addition, 16 finalists will each receive $25,000 and 300 schools will each receive $5,000 throughout the competition’s entry period to support high school football programs nationwide.

The deadline for submissions is September 20, 2024, and the grand prize winner will be announced in December.
