The Gadsden Mall will host a Back-to-School Block Party from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 10 with activities for children and sidewalk sales.

Mall Customer Service Supervisor Sally Waldrop said the event will focus on promoting healthy lifestyles for children – and their parents.

Waldrop said there will be activities such as Tae Kwan Do and Zumba, and vendors including the Department of Public Health, Etowah Youth Soccer — giving a demonstration, YMCA, Strut and others.

Living Truth Christian Center will be giving away backpacks at the center fountain starting at 9 a.m. Aug. 10, Waldrop said, and radio station, Z 93 will have its van inside the mall collecting school supplies for its annual “Cram the Van” event.

There will be an art center for children and Belk’s will have its semi-annual event for kids with a fashion show. Sarrell Dental and Sunshine Face Painting will be on hand.

Several events are planned between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., Waldrop said, and some giveaways, including a $100 gift certificate. Waldrop said organizers want to make the event a fun, youth-oriented day to focus on getting a good, healthy start to the coming school year.
