Gadsden Runner’s Club to host youth 5K

  The Gadsden Runner’s Club is hosting an Kids Superhero Bolt. The kids only 5K and 1-mile race will be held April 19 at 2 p.m. 

Children 14 and under are allowed to participate. Adults are allowed to run with their children, but are not required to. Gadsden Runners Club members will run the course with the children.  Volunteers will line the course to offer encouragement and to insure runners stay on course.  Water stations will be set up at various spots along the course. 

The 1-mile race will begin at the YMCA and go down Bay Street to Cleveland Ave., before turning around at Striplin Elementary School to reverse the course.  The 5K will begin at the YMCA and go down Bay St. to Cleveland Ave., before  turning left onto Turrentine.  From there runners will follow Turrentine around Argyle Circle to Haralson.  Runners will turn around at Haralson Ave and Cleveland, then reverse the course.

Children are encouraged to wear a favorite superhero costume for the run.

All runners who cross the finish line will receive an award. Individual age group awards for first, second and third place will also be given. T-shirts are guaranteed with pre-registration, which must be turned in by April 11. After the children complete the race they will be given a Frios pop. There will be many post race activities including Jump Time Inflatables, a photo booth and face painting.

Box 595, Gadsden, AL 35902-0959 or drop off the registration at YMCA front desk in a sealed envelope. Registration rates differ according to how many children in the household are registering. For one child registration is $15,.For two childen, it is $25. For three children, it is $35. For four children, it is $40. For five or more children, registration is $45. All children must be in the same household.

“We are trying to raise money for the YMCA summer programs,” said Kim Richee, the Gadsden Runner’s Club Secretary.

The money will provide scholarships to children so they can attend the YMCA for the summer. Some of the money will also benifit the Gadsden Runner’s Club youth division. 

Sponsers include Gadsden Regional Medical Center, Gadsden Orthopaedics, Pediatric Dentistry East, Frios Gourmet Pops, Etowah Pediatrics, Modern Woodmen, Baptist Retirement Village 1 and 2,  Etowah ENT and Jump Time Party Rentals.
