Glencoe fell to Ashville, 69-41, in Class 3A, Area 10 tournament action on Feb. 9 at Hokes Bluff.

The “run-and-gun” Bulldogs jumped to quick lead and led 20-7 at the end of the first quarter and never looked back.

The Lady Jackets narrowed the score gap to 33-18 at intermission.

Ashville poured in bucket after bucket in the second half.

The Bulldogs led 48-25 at the end of third quarter, outscoring Glencoe 15-7.

Ashville scored at will in the final frame, scoring virtually every trip down the floor.

Sally Tinker netted eight points for Glencoe, while Kelsey Cooper chipped in five.

Glencoe head coach John Blackwell said the Bulldogs won the low-game.

“They were big and strong and hard to jump with. It is hard to guard those big girls with small guards. They denied our cutters through the middle of the lane, forcing us to score from outside. We didn’t shoot as well as we normally do from out there.”

Blackwell was appreciative of the Lady Jackets’ efforts.

“It was a tough night for our team and especially our seniors. They are a great group of girls and it has been a pleasure coaching them. They always do what I ask of them and that has been the key to our success. I will miss them.”

Ashville will face Hokes Bluff on Feb. 11 at 6 p.m. for the Area 10 championship. The game will be played at Hokes Bluff.
