Riverfest more than just ‘Big Noise’

Big names country and county wide will perform at Riverfest 2014.

The 29th annual music festival on the banks of the Coosa River is set for June 13 and June 14.

Riley Green will open on Friday, June 13 at 5 p.m.

The Chamber, Gadsden-Etowah County, announced the Jacksonville native as the first confirmed artist to perform for the music festival.

Although the weather did not cooperate for the Jeremy Jackson Band during RiverFest 2013, they are back for another show as the second lineup on Friday.

“Jeremy was scheduled to play last year, and due to the straight line winds and excessive rain, he was unable to take the main stage but decided to make the best of a bad situation and grabbed his guitar and headed to the Beer Garden,” Kerri Griffin, of The Chamber of Gadsden and Etowah County, said. “Jeremy played to a packed tent until we were able to get the main stage back up and running.”

The rain didn’t stop the band from giving an exciting impromptu performance last year, and fans will be looking for the same at this year’s show.

Jeremy Jackson Band will play at 6 p.m.

Black Joe Lewis will play next, as the first American blues, funk and soul artist of the night. The group was formed in Austin, Texas in 2007.

They will hit the stage at 7:30 p.m.

Third Eye Blind will be the headline performance at 9 p.m.

The American alternative rock band was formed in the early 1990s in San Francisco and is best known for its hits “Semi-Charmed Life,” “Jumper,” and “How’s It Going to Be.”

The band’s first album went platinum six times and the second record hit that mark twice.

Saturday’s opening act will be Fort Payne native Justin Chain, starting up at 6 p.m. for Riverfest’s country night on June 14.

Chain appeared on season five of The Voice on NBC. The musician said of his career since The Voice, “Now I’m currently working on my first album, Real Country.”

While music is one of Chain’s great loves, it wasn’t his only love. “Originally I had planned on going to Alabama and playing football,” Chain said.

He intended to pursue a career in the medical field. In October 2008 he was hit head on by a Chevy Trailblazer while riding a motorcycle.

As a result, Chain now has 78 screws and 13 plates in his body. The damage to his legs was so extreme that doctors considered amputation. “After waking up several days later I was told I would never walk again,” Chain said, “so my dreams of playing sports were over.”

The accident didn’t keep Chain down for long, though, and he will continue to add another chapter to his story with his appearance at Riverfest.

The Brooke Danielle Band will also play at 6 p.m. Saturday on the second stage. The band was formed in February 2012, and they are now considered the Hottest Teen Country Band.

Band members play more than one instrument, and during a show you may see them swap in the middle of a song.

The band consists of seven young artists, ranging in ages from 14-20. They play a variety of instruments and perform many original songs as well as cover song to show their diversity as young rising artists.

The Brooke Danielle Band won a showcase called ‘Welcome to Nashville CRS Showcase’, and got to play on Broadway.

They will record a six track EP at the Rukkus Room in Nashville.

The Rukkus Room currently records artists like Thomas Rhett, Cassadee Pope, Drake White, Justin Moore, and other artists for Sony and Big Machine Records.

The LAC’s will play at 7:30 p.m., and will bring “hick hop” and southern rock sounds. The band is from the sandy dirt roads of Baxley, Georgia, a South Georgia town more famous for its sawmills and turpentine stills than for having a successful southern rap group.

The LACS consist of hip hop artist Clay “Uncle Snap” Sharpe and lead vocalist / guitarist Brian “ Rooster” King.

The band’s latest album is still in the works but has already created a buzz with its contributions from Average Joe recording artist Colt Ford on the song “Shindig” and allowing the LACS the privilege of performing during some of his tour dates.

Wynonna and the Big Noise will headline Saturday night at 9:30 p.m.

A five-time GRAMMY winner and New York Times bestselling author, Wynonna released a brand new single, “Something You Can’t Live Without” – produced by husband/band leader Cactus Moser – due from her forthcoming album, an hour long riveting television documentary “Wynonna & Cactus: The Road Back”, and a national magazine cover feature in UsWeekly, plus competed on ABC’s juggernaut TV show “Dancing with the Stars.”

Wynonna has been recording her eighth studio album, due out this year with Curb Records.

It’s just the latest in a string of hit albums that started with her quintuple platinum 1992 solo debut, Wynonna.

In 1994, Wynonna received the coveted Top Female Vocalist of the Year trophy at the ACM Awards.

Rolling Stone called her “the greatest female country singer since Patsy Cline.”

Engaging the soulful, bluesy side of her voice only hinted at with The Judds, Wynonna went on to sell more than 10 million albums and reach new creative heights with six chart toppers of her own.

Wynonna is always evolving and you can bet her fans will be watching at Riverfest as she writes the next chapter of her legendary career.
