The Sardis High boys basketball team’s record-breaking 2023-24 season is being duly recognized.
The Lions, who won a program-best 28 games, captured the county and area tournament championships and made it to the Northeast Regional Tournament semifinals, earned the top two awards for the All-Etowah County Schools team.
Senior guard Kason Moore was named Player of the Year, while head coach Van Owens earned Coach of the Year honors. Moore (pictured above) finished with 12.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.1 steals. Owen guided the Lions to their first Northeast Regional Tournament appearance for the first time on 17 years.
Joining Moore on the all-county team from Sardis were senior center Eli Morton (15.3 points, 9.9 rebounds, 24 blocks) and senior guard Luke Martin (13.6 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.1 steals).
Named from Gaston were junior guard Mica Merriman (19.3 points, 6.3 assists, 5.5 rebounds, 2.6 steals), junior forward Devon Green (12.2 points, 9.5 rebounds) and sophomore forward
Kodie Bogle (6.6 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.1 steals).
Representing Glencoe were junior forward Garrett Morgan (18.4 points, 7.7 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 2.2 steals), senior guard Aiden Cornutt (18.4 points, 3.6 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 2.0 steals) and junior guard Wade Segrest (14.3 points, 7.1 assist, 4.5 rebounds).
Hokes Bluff selections included senior guard Landon Davenport (13.2 points, 4.7 rebounds), junior guard Anderson Morgan (8.6 points, 3.5 assists, 2.4 steals) and sophomore guard Noah Johnson (11.0 points, 3.1 rebounds).
Picked from Southside were sophomore forward Cayden Reason (14.6 points, 8.1 rebounds) and junior guard Silas Osborne (7.4 points, 2.0 rebounds).
Senior forward Marty Wooten (13.8 points, 8.6 rebounds) represented West End.
