Southside contracts out garbage pickup

By Donna Thornton/New Editor

Some Southside residents already received new garbage cans labeled Advanced Disposal and should expect postcards explaining why soon.

The city contracted with the waste management company and it will begin pickup in the city on Oct. 1. Mayor Wally Burns said the cards to be sent out will detail how people need to place the garbage cans for truck pickup. He said pick up days are not expected to change.

People can obtain a second can if needed, by calling city hall. Burns said there would be a small added charge for two cans, but the cans are free.

Burns said the change was made for financial reasons. The city would have needed a new truck soon,  and will save on workman’s comp and insurance. He said the change didn’t cost any jobs.
