Condolences offered for Whitaker family

Gadsden State Community College extends its sincerest condolences to family and friends of Riley W. Whitaker. He began his tenure at Gadsden State in 1966 as a coach and later became athletic director in 1983. Whitaker was inducted into the Alabama Junior College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2002 and the Etowah County Athletic Hall of Fame in 2008.

“During the 41 years that Whitaker was employed at Gadsden State the athletic department claimed numerous regional, state, and national awards for wins as well as academic accolades,” acting president Bill Blow said.

“He will be remembered for his service to the college and impact in this community.” Memorials or donations may be made to the Riley Whitaker Memorial Scholarship Fund at Gadsden State Community College.
