Kids Korner: Lavender’s Best Friend

By Andi Chupp

School is back in session and I’m not too excited about it. I would much rather be riding than at school. I am a straight A student, but riding is more fun than school. I still get lots of Lavender time, but not as much as I did when school was out for the summer.

Over the summer, I spent a lot of time at the barn and attended two riding camps. They were so much fun, and I cannot wait till the next one. I get to spend time with some of my barn besties, like Maddux Pinney and her horse Hazel. I have several best friends who take riding lessons at the same place. Some are home schooled and some go to other schools. I also have other best friend who do not ride horses. I hope I can see them over the school year like I did during the summer.

Lavender has a horse best friend, too. Hazel is Lavender’s bestie. They are like two peas in a pod. When I go to the pasture to catch

Lavender to feed her or to get her ready for lessons, Hazel is always close by. Hazel will walk with us back to the barn.

Best friends are always good, whe-ther you’re a girl or an animal. Best friends help us when we are having a bad day, they make us laugh so hard our stomachs hurt and they cheer us on in competitions even when we are competing against them. That what best friends do. I’m glad I have all my best friends and I’m glad Lavender has one too. If you are looking for a horse best friend, we have several at my barn.

Andi Chupp is 10 years old and is in the sixth grade at St. James Catholic School. She loves all things horses and wants to be a veterinarian when she grows up.
