Natasha Williams, a registered nurse in orthopedics at Gadsden Regional Medical Center, has been named the 2015 Patient Choice Award winner.

Williams received the honor on May 6, at GRMC.

May 6 was also National Nurses Day, when nurses across the country are recognized for their tireless commitment to the profession.

Williams was selected from a field of more than two dozen nurses, all nominated by former patients (or patient family members) who had been admitted for care at GRMC in the past year.

“I am so honored to work with such a group of caring professionals nurses like this year’s nominees,” said Donna Nicholson, the hospital’s Chief Nursing officer. “Looking at the compliments made by patients and their family members, anyone can see that these nurses provide top-notch, quality care at Gadsden Regional.”

Nominations for Williams called her “a shining star” with “a positive attitude and a smile” who showed “compassion, patience and understanding” to her patients.

“Natasha really cares about her patients,” said a patient’s family member who submitted one of the numerous nominations received for Williams. “(She) went above and beyond.”

Another nomination said Williams makes her patients “feel comfortable and cared for,” while yet another said Williams “went out of her way to make sure our needs were met.”

Williams, who has been with GRMC for more than a year, received her degree from Jacksonville State University.  The California native, who was raised in Birmingham and attended Shades Valley High School, currently resides in Gadsden.

Williams is active in Big Brothers Big Sisters and is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She was also honored earlier this year as GRMC’s Employee of the Month.

For being named this year’s Patient Choice Award winner, Williams received a plaque and a check for $500.

Others nominated for this year’s Patient Choice Award were Amber Adcock, Tammy Boatfield, Nicole Brown, Amber Butler, Cynetta Carlisle, Jerria Carter, Barbara Colvin, Monica Dowdy, Faith Espy, Karen Florence, Eric Herren, Lynn Hill, Stacey Johnson, Kimberly Jones, Emily Lamb, Lauren Goddard, Misty Little, Natalie Mason, Amanda Means, Telitha Poole, Brittany Rains, Jennifer Schmid, Allison Tolbert, William Turner, Angela Williams, Ashton Witt and Tony Wood.
